With the holidays just around the corner, our NSCS Fullerton Chapter is getting in the spirit of giving with lots of opportunities for community service and giving to the less fortunate. Just take a look at all that Celina, our VP of Community Service has in store for you:

1. A Million Thanks

For our meeting on Thursday, November 21, from 2:30-3:30pm, we will be making holiday cards for our militaries abroad. Please feel free to bring in any arts and crafts materials. Our meeting will be held at TSU Gilman AB. You will receive 2 points for attending.

2. YAS Thanksgiving Dinner Outreach

On Monday, November 25, from 3:00-5:00pm, we will be helping You Are Special Community Outreach and Food Pantry in unloading and sorting food donations that will be distributed to local families in need for the upcoming Thanksgiving. The service project will be held at 514 E. Chapman Ave, Orange, CA 92869. Please feel free to invite any of your friends and family to participate as well. Members will receive three points. Sign-ups will close on November 22nd.

3. School Supplies Drive

This month, NSCS chapters across the country, in partnerships with Teach For America, are collecting school supplies that will donated to local NSCS PACE and TFA schools. Below are few of the items that we are collecting:

  • pencils

  • safety scissors

  • 3-ring binders

  • lunch boxes

  • ziplock bags

  • band-aids

  • paper towels

  • combination locks

  • AND SO MUCH MORE!

There really are so much more items that I was not able to list. Please do not hesitate to email Celina if you would like to see the full list.

4. Book Drive

Through the help of Better World Books, we are collecting books that will either be sold or recycled. We will receive a dollar for every accepted books. Half of what we make will go to our club and half will be donated to Room to Read, a non-profit organization that helps promote literacy and education to children in underdeveloped nations. We are accepting any types of books from textbooks to novels and even children’s books so long as they are in good condition. This book drive is happening for the whole academic year so there are plenty of chances to turn your books in. For every three books, you will receive one point.

5. Care-pack for the Homeless

A friend of Celina is collecting backpacks, food, reusable water bottles, clothing, and other basic items that will then be distributed to people living in the streets. The goal is to help them during the upcoming cold season. So if you have any old mittens, scarves, jackets, and other warm clothing that you are no longer using, please feel free to donate them.

You can turn any of your donated items during our meetings or contact Celina to arrange a pick-up.
